Hello and welcome to my practice. My name is Monique Botha, and I am a Clinical Psychologist who is committed to helping individuals from all walks of life on their path to well-being. My goal is to create a warm, safe, and caring space where you feel truly heard, understood, and comfortable to be yourself.

You’ll notice a wing at the end of my logo—it’s the wing of a phoenix. In mythology, the phoenix is a symbol of renewal, transformation, and rising from the ashes of adversity. Much like the journey in therapy, the phoenix represents the human capacity for growth, resilience, and rebirth, even after facing the most challenging of life’s difficulties. In psychology, the process of healing often involves confronting past struggles, breaking through limiting patterns, and emerging stronger, just as the phoenix is reborn after being consumed by fire. Therapy provides the space for this transformation, helping individuals navigate their own cycles of renewal, and empowering them to rebuild their lives with greater strength and clarity. The phoenix wing in my logo serves as a reminder that no matter how difficult the journey, there is always the potential for healing, growth, and a fresh start.

In my therapeutic approach, I primarily use psychodynamic therapy, as it allows for deep, long-lasting change by exploring underlying psychological processes. I also incorporate principles from Carl Rogers to foster an open and empathetic environment during our sessions. Although these are my primary approaches, each individual sitting on the couch in front of me

has a different story. Thus, I draw from various therapeutic models to assist my clients. These can include CBT, DBT, existential therapy and others. Client feedback is essential to me - this helps me ensure the treatment is effective and aligned with your goals.

I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults across a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, eating disorders, and trauma-related conditions. My background includes working in hospitals, psychiatric settings, and private practice, where I’ve honed my skills across diverse therapeutic approaches.

Beyond therapy, I conduct thorough psychological assessments for individuals and third-party clients (such as attorneys, insurance companies, and employers). These assessments cover a wide range of concerns, including mental health diagnoses, personality profiles, cognitive functioning, and career-related issues. My reports are detailed and objective, providing clear insights that assist in legal decision-making, workplace accommodations, and rehabilitation planning.

Furthermore, I am experienced in medico-legal work, providing expert psychological evaluations for legal matters, including cases related to personal injury, trauma, and mental health claims. This includes work with the Road Accident Fund, where I assess the psychological impact of accidents and assist in determining the extent of emotional and cognitive impairments. My evaluations are comprehensive, addressing both the psychological and functional effects of trauma, and are used to support legal proceedings and compensation claims.

Whether you’re seeking support for yourself or a loved one or require a psychological assessment, I’m here to provide compassionate and professional guidance every step of the way.
